The last couple weeks have been a little crazy with arriving for the orientation at Rice University in Houston on June 3rd, leaving on June 5th, then starting at the lab at ASU on June 6th. That first week truly was a whirlwind of information and experiences, but it was great! I learned a lot, and got to meet many great people. At ASU my mentor Tanner Rosenthal and a couple of PhD students Andrew Dopilka and Jon Weller have been extremely helpful in answering questions, showing me around the lab, and helping me set up experiments.
So far I have been working on synthesizing Layered Double Hydroxides (LDH’s) using different salts. I have been mainly working on checking the identity of the LDH I have synthesized with some tests, to see if it matches up with previous results from papers. I will attach a picture of some LDH that was synthesized using cobalt chloride that had a fun pink color. As well as some that was filtering made using magnesium chloride.
