As the weeks have progressed my project has finally gained traction. I will be testing the effects on oil viscosity and specific gravity after adding Pd(acac)2 to heavy oil and heating it to 250 degrees Celsius. The design for the project is very similar to my mentor’s work, as she has been performing similar research for the past year. She will even include my work as a contribution of data for her upcoming paper on the topic of heavy oil viscosity. We have selected our oil and prepared our samples this week. Next week we will begin measuring and separating the oil into its major fractions.
