Earlier in the week we went to a desalination plant here in El Paso. It turns out that the largest inland desalination plant is right here in the city.
They told us that people from all over the world come to see the way the plant is run because the need for inland plants is rising.
The plant uses reverse osmosis to clean water pumped from the under ground aquifers where the city gets its’ water from.
Each of the tubes you see has a valve for water samples that need to be checked every two hours by a technician and reported to the EPA.
The trip was super interesting, I never thought about how the city gets its’ water and now I’m grateful for the plant now that I know that it’s there and how it works.
