Orientation Recap

Hello World,

I’m not sure where to even begin this post. I have made new memories that will last a lifetime. I am sure that I will never forget sitting next to Chris on the flight to Houston while we talked about physics the whole plane ride, this included the hour we spent at Austin’s airport due to Houstons being shut down because of the storm. I am not sure what all of the other people around us thought while we discussed why planes travel the way they do because the earth is a non-euclidean shape. Therefore the fastest way between two points is not always a straight line.

My time in Houston was amazing, coming from Arizona a place where rain seems an anomaly it was amazing to have our first night on Rice University’s campus be full of rain. I now understand when people from Texas talk about how fast the weather can change in just a few short moments. ( Just as the picture below shows, and yes that is for the most part exactly what it is like in Arizona for at least 9 months)

In the short time spent here, I was able to meet the other interns that I will be working with at ASU well as interns from Rice and UTEP. We all quickly became acquainted and hit it off right at the start, most likely because for the most part, we all are like minded people. Throughout the orientation, we obtained valuable information that I truly believe I would have never learned elsewhere. However, it did have to end at some point and when we landed back in Arizona we came home to a beautiful sunset.

  1. I laughed when I read about being on the plane. That’s a funny thing to think about because we literally were talking about physics the entire time. That is something memorable. If you speak it, physics is a universal language in which strangers can engage a conversation. Plus the ride back was pretty cool and Rice/Houston was nice. When we landed, that picture was amazing. It couldn’t be captured by camera, only by memory. I wish we could share that image with everybody though
