Week 1 and 2 Updates

Hi everyone,
I would like to start off by admitting how excited I am after reading and sharing our experiences. Even though, we are all working on different projects, we all have a final goal and that is Water treatment= make water more accesible to everyone in the world. Yes, I am aware that we are taking small steps, and that this is JUST a 10 weeks project, but is also important to keep in mind that every little detail, research results or any innovation that we make today, will make a difference tomorrow.

And keeping that in mind, I have been fully dedicated to my project and assignations since day one! For the past couple of days, my mentor, Boyu Zhang, and I have been working on developing the most suitable polymer that will disperse Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs). We have worked with different compounds- and different concentrations and ratios. Below in the picture you will find those, however ONLY 3 of them have made it to the next round (which are the polymers that after dispersing form a clear solution).

Polymers solutions that we have been working on

That is my lesson learned for these past 2 weeks- Research takes times and effort, and a lot of patience. Not all the time things will go as expected, and when that happens, DON’T GIVE UP-KEEP TRYING, AND NOW HARDER. My mentor have taught me that, since even though once solution doesn’t work, then he keeps trying with the same compounds but different ratios or concentration.

This week we will be working on another combinations of same compounds, until we find the suitable one that will disperse CNTs.

I look forward to hear from all your experiences, and will definitely keep yall updated with our results.

Best regards,
Tahimy Landestoy
