NEWT REU KickOff

The first week of our REU program was very informative and it opened my eyes to many things. Visiting the colonias was a great way to see first hand the struggles that many people go through and actually being able to understand how my work as an engineer and working in a lab ties with the actual problem itself.  In order to gain a better understanding of the water quality of the their water, I was able to take a sample from a resident and test its pH, conductivity, ORP, turbidity, free ammonia, monochloromine, total chlorine and nitrite.

Furthermore, I was so pleased to visit the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Plant as seeing much of a bigger scale of RO membranes as I work at a pilot test bed with a much smaller scale than this.
