ICP-MS and Meeting with Westway community

This week was busy, even though it was the 4th of July Tuesday and we did not attend UTEP Monday or Tuesday because of the holiday we were working hard the rest of the days. Dr. Deemer arranged for Patricia and me to go to another laboratory where they will be assisting us with running ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma- Mass Spectrometry). We saw this instrument, watched it while some samples were running, and talked about how it works.

Patricia and I also attended a meeting in Westway another colonia in El Paso, they have been struggling like Hueco Tanks with their water and sewers. They showed us everything that they have accomplished since 1997, which was the year that the organization got established. Since then many have been able to get their water running along with sewer connections, but many in the Colonia are still struggling. In addition, Westway also has a flooding issue after a rainstorm because of the “arrollos” overflowing. Overall we learned a lot in the meeting, which will be useful to apply some of the things they mentioned at the Hueco Tanks Colonias.
