Visiting UTEP

It’s been three years, but I finally made it back to UTEP to visit our 2 REUs, their mentors and NEWT students & faculty there.

It’s always great to see in person what the REUs are working on.  Here’s Melanie with her electrodialysis membrane stacks that are being cleaned after a trip to Yuma, AZ, with her mentor (Tayia Oddonetto) and PI (Dr. Shane Walker) for a Bureau of Reclamation contest.

Juan Francisco Lopez is working in Dr. Dino Villagran’s lab with Sheng Yin in PFOA removal from water using different nanomaterials.

We also got together with other NEWT students and faculty for some pizza!

As always, I walked around El Paso in the morning to enjoy the cool weather after our temperature-record-setting June weather in Houston.

Until next time!
